Meet Our Therapists: Jensen Stanislaus, LSW
“I gravitated towards Integrate Therapy & Wellness because of their dedication to meeting the client where they’re at and treating the whole person.”
Our team of therapists, counselors and licensed social workers bring with them a wealth of knowledge from their varied backgrounds and disciplines. If you want to book an appointment with a counselor, why not get to know them a bit first?
We talked with Jensen Stanislaus, a mental health therapist who joined the team at Integrate
Therapy & Wellness in the fall of 2024 to learn more about her career, passions and the best advice she’s received from a therapist.
MEET JENSEN
Jensen was inspired to pursue a career in counseling after seeing the positive effects in the lives of others, and eventually, her own. Like many people, her mental health declined during the COVID-19 pandemic. “I sought help to better myself and learn how to cope in adaptive ways and prioritize my overall well-being,” shares Jensen. “The very first time I attended a session, the therapist ended the hour by telling me I should be a therapist myself.”
That experience really did motivate Jensen to pursue a career in mental health. By the time the pandemic ended, she was already enrolled in a master’s program and was well on her way to becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. “My life could look entirely different if I hadn’t reached out for help and saw the benefit therapy can have in an individual's life first-hand,” says Jensen. “I wanted to make a difference in the world by helping others and therapy is a hands-on way to do just that.”
And after her years of training, Jensen shares this piece of wisdom a therapist once shared with her: “Learn to accept what is not within your control,” she says. “As people, we can only control our individual actions and feelings - we can not always control external circumstances or the actions of others.” While the work of a therapist can be challenging, Jensen says it’s all worth it in the end. “The most rewarding part of being a mental health therapist is seeing patients benefit from therapeutic services and interventions,” she shares. “I enjoy helping people, providing them with a safe space, being an advocate for them, and being someone they can trust and rely on as a constant in their life as they need it. It is most rewarding to see patients feel empowered after seeking treatment and take initiative to make positive changes in their lives.”
When she’s not meeting with patients, Jensen makes sure to take time for herself. “I integrate wellness into my life by prioritizing self-care and making it a point to strike a work-life balance. I spend time with loved ones, engage in exercise regularly, pursue my hobbies/interests, and travel when possible!”
JENSEN’S SPECIALTIES
Mental Health Therapists train in a variety of disciplines and Jensen has experience using a modality called strengths-based counseling. This form of therapy focuses on the strengths and values the individual brings to the table. “A strengths-based approach empowers patients to utilize the means they already hold, capitalize on their strengths, and see themselves at their best,” she says. “I have seen this method be extremely beneficial to patients, improving their self-esteem and acknowledging their capabilities; this method focuses on the client and what they have to offer, not their vulnerabilities. I lean into the strengths of the individual - mentally, emotionally, and physically to guide treatment and help them reach their goals.”
Jensen also has experience administering cognitive behavioral therapy, referred to in shorthand as CBT, and some people may also call this talk therapy. In more academic terms, Jensen says that CBT is, “a form of psychotherapy that focuses on altering the way a patient thinks and behaves in response to various triggers, environments, or situations. This treatment modality focuses on how a person perceives a situation and how we can intervene behaviorally to alter the outcome.”
