Jyllaine Singh, LSW
A Few of My Favorite Things:
Major book recommendation is "Atlas of the Heart" by Brene Brown (really any Brene Brown book is great) - this book is really helpful in developing emotional intelligence and notice the nuances between emotions.
I also recommend any book by Dr. Dan Siegel - these are helpful in developing your parenting style but also understanding human development from childhood through adolescents.
For hobbies, I enjoy reading historical romance or watching a romantic comedy. I am also partial to cooking and baking shows. I love spending time with my husband and two sons. We take a beach trip every year!
My favorite movie is Zootopia. I find the music and message of movie empowering and impactful. Each time I watch it, I am inspired to be the best version of myself and help others achieve that as well.
How Long I’ve Been Practicing:
I started in this field in January 2018, while completing my internship for my Bachelor of Social Work from Millersville University. I’ve worked in both child welfare and family work. I have been practicing as an LSW for 6 years.
My Areas of Expertise:
I specialize in working with individuals who have experienced trauma, whether through their attachment experience or a specific incident. I work with both adolescents and adults. I have many years of experience with teens, and especially appreciate the difficulties that this phase of life can present. I work with individuals struggling with depression and anxiety. My approach is rooted in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can allow themselves to be vulnerable and authentic.
Why I Chose This Area:
I was diagnosed with anxiety and minor depressive episodes after welcoming my second son into the world. My second postpartum journey was drastically different than my first. I had to seek out help and discover more about myself to work on my own healing and wellbeing. This healing journey has given me an even stronger drive to continue to help others through mental health therapy.
I am number six of eight children to my parents; I have six sisters and one brother, whom is the youngest in the family. I know what it is like to experience turmoil and trauma in childhood, and I also know that there is hope for healing and wholeness. This personal experience is part of what has led me to the social work field, and it is what gives me the ability to show up for my clients in an authentic way. I especially enjoy working with teenagers. Being a teenager can be a very difficult time of life, and I’ve found success in creating the connection that teens need to feel safe and make progress in therapy.
A Little About Me:
I love to travel! I make it to various places domestically and internationally due to my husband playing Pokemon competitively. My favorite trips have been to Toronto and London. I also attended a wedding in Poland in September 2024 for a close Pokemon friend; Polish weddings last 12 hours!
